Today

Sometimes I become overwhelmed easily. There's so much I want to do and it's like my hands have to keep up with my mind! When we were driving to the grocery store one day, I was venting to Jose how I felt very "behind." He frowns, turns to me and asks "What are you racing for? Why are you in such a rush?"

I just stared out the window and shrugged. I don't know. While there isn't some finish line, I do tend to mix up desires/dreams with attainable goals. Not that some of my desires aren't attainable, by all means -- they can be! But some of them take time. And because I read so many blogs with established artists, I think that I'm not "there" fast enough.

These past two weeks God has been sending me the same message over and over: focus on me. We get so caught up in pleasing others or become wrapped up in what we have or haven't done, but lose sight of who we should be wrapped up in... God. Not my to-do list, not my business, and not my future plans.

So I challenge you, whether you're a believer or not, to focus on ONE day -- today. How can I serve God better today? What can I accomplish today? And reward yourself for what you did today and not what you haven't done so far.

When I focus on God and on *today*... I'm no longer in this rush. On top of that, I allow me to be ME. Not the other runners in the race. My pace might be different, but as long as I'm running and my prize continues to be my God -- I won't feel so behind.

1 Corinthians 9:25-27 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
