Desert Style with Promise Tangeman

Promise and I had a style shoot/puppy date/dinner with the hubs a couple of weeks ago.  You guys should have seen her dog Parker with our 8 week old Dapper.  Oh my word, the cuteness was too much.  Clearly Dapper doesn't have a concept of size yet -- he just saw FRIEND, haha.  I saw mini lion in comparison to Dapper, haha.  Evidence:

So while those two were having wrestling matches, playing tag, and getting into trouble -- Promise and I snuck out to do a quick style shoot.  Jose kept Brian company while Brian cooked an incredibly delicious dinner for all of us.

Back to the shoot.  Um, YES, I was definitely nervous.  Promise is a beautiful girl who has been photographed by incredible artists -- no pressure, right?  AND to top it off, there was this stubborn WIND that wouldn't go away!!  I think the first 10 minutes were the most nerve wrecking and the funny thing is that doing video while I shoot helps me to focus.  So as I would record, I would take a deep breath and tell myself "chill out." Haha.  After we shifted to a different spot, I started getting into my groove and eased into doing what I do...

Promise is truly a rockstar with oh so many talents.  She is incredibly comfortable in front of the camera and with the style that she has, I was so honored to be the one behind the camera capturing it.  Promise and I both love video, so of course we couldn't have a style shoot without one.  Video is taking over my mind!!! And I'm completely okay with that :)

Bellas: Jasmine Vidal Native Fashion

I don't know if you've noticed that this has been the summer of Native American wear. And seeing as how I live in the desert... this has been quite fitting.

We went with two looks for Jasmine. The first is a more edgy, punkier Native American interpretation:




And the second -- a softer, bohemian interpretation:





I wish you could see the bottom right one in print. I ordered a metallic print and the colors are amazing -- one of my favorites!



What has been your summer clothing selection? I've been all over coral and recently getting into bright nail polish colors. And by bright, I mean neon. Go ahead, judge. My husband already did! Which will be opposite to what I hear is making a comeback this fall... KHAKI. Say what?

I might be making that up. Let's hope so cause khaki and I are like Spice Girls making a reunion tour with N'Sync. Just not right. But possibly interesting.

Desert Vagabond -- Fashion + Video

Last summer I moved to the desert (aka Phoenix) and from the first month of living here I have been wanting to do this kind of shoot...



Yeah baby... desert vagabond.

The styling was a bit challenging -- I was going for a fashionable Indian look (think Free People Clothing) without breaking the bank. Fortunately I stumbled across Butter Toast Boutique here in Phoenix and found this amazing top!



Added some lace socks to my boots and a flowy skirt from Forever 21.

And well, I already told you about the Indian headdress (in case you need to make your own ;). The rest is for you to enjoy the collaboration between myself and my sister Jasmine.

Do you like the magazine layouts? I'm re-doing my collections and am considering offering a magazine layout for portrait sessions. Can't wait to print these out!
